Focused support for middle school and high school students.
Science, Math, English, and academic skills — one-on-one, and tailored to how your student actually learns.
Island Tutoring offers personalized, structured tutoring for students who need clearer explanations, better organization, and steady academic support. Whether your student is keeping up, catching up, or pushing ahead, sessions are built around their specific coursework and goals.
Organized, thorough, and built around clarity.
I started Island Tutoring to offer the kind of academic support that's harder to find in a large tutoring center — sessions that are specific, structured, and actually aligned with what your student is studying in class.
My approach is straightforward: I work through the material with students in a way that makes sense to them, help them build better study habits, and hold them accountable to their own goals. I'm not here to do the work for them — I'm here to help them understand it.
With a background in Physical Geography and Ocean Science from UC Santa Barbara, I work most comfortably across the sciences and math, with strong English and social science support as well.
- Sessions are built around each student's specific coursework
- Emphasis on understanding over memorization
- Consistent structure and accountability, session to session
- Honest communication with parents about progress
Is this a good fit?
I work with middle school and high school students. A good fit tends to look like one of these:
High performers
Students who are doing well and want to stay sharp, prep for APs, or get ahead of difficult coursework.
Capable but disorganized
Students who understand the material but struggle with planning, deadlines, and keeping track of assignments.
Students who need catching up
Students who have fallen behind and need focused, efficient help getting back on track in a specific subject.
Self-starters
Students who come prepared, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning. Sessions go further with motivated students.
Project-based learners
Students who do better with longer-term structure — planning essays, breaking down big assignments, managing timelines.
Students seeking structure
Students who benefit from having a consistent routine, clear expectations, and someone to help them stay accountable.
"Not every student is the right fit, and that's okay. If you're not sure, feel free to reach out — I'm happy to have a brief conversation before any commitment."

What sessions cover
Sessions are flexible depending on what a student needs that week. Here's what tutoring can include:
Homework support
Working through assignments together, with real explanations — not just answers.
Test & quiz prep
Reviewing content, identifying gaps, and practicing the material that's actually being tested.
Project planning
Breaking large assignments into steps and building a realistic timeline to finish them.
Study skills
Building note-taking habits, review routines, and strategies that carry into future classes.
Organization
Helping students manage their workload, track deadlines, and reduce last-minute stress.
Accountability
Regular check-ins on progress, and honest feedback on where more focus is needed.
Content review
Going back over concepts that didn't land the first time, broken down differently.
Catching up
Structured support for students who've fallen behind and need to close gaps efficiently.
Simple, straightforward pricing.
Sessions are billed by the hour. No packages required, no long-term commitment.
One-on-one sessions for any subject. Scheduling by appointment, online or in person.
Intensive support for AP coursework and standardized test preparation.
A brief call to talk through your student's needs and whether we're a good fit before committing to anything.
Payment is collected after each session via Venmo, Zelle, or check. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be charged a partial session fee.
